The Gorbea Natural Park is located between the historical regions of Bizkaia and Alava, around the Gorbeia Mountain with 1.481m of altitude.
The 70% of its surface is occupied by beech, oak, and pine woods. In its peak, you can see the famous Gorbeia Cross, which is 18m height.
Countless shacks and sheepfolds spread out the meadows of Gorbeia, as a reflection of an important pastoral tradition. We also find constructions such as forges or farmhouses with a typical rural architecture.
THE GORBEIA IS THE SCENE OF MANY STORIES OF THE BASQUE MYTHOLOGY WITH LAMIAS, WITCHES, AND 'GENTILES' AS PROTAGONISTS.
In this Natural Park, we can find a wide faunistic range. Among the species living here, it must be brought out the presence of several animals classified as endangered species in the Basque Country, i.e. the otter, the Pyrenees desman, the grey wagtail or the aquatic blackbird, or the stag, the emblematic specie of the park.

Cabe destacar la emblemática CRUZ DEL GORBEIA que con motivo del fin del siglo XIX y la entrada en el siglo XX el Papa León XIII recomendó que se erigieran cruces en las cumbres más altas de las montañas para homenajear a Jesucristo Redentor.
El 12 DE NOVIEMBRE DE 1901, martes, se bendice la primera Cruz, de un longitud de 33 metros. El 12 DE DICIEMBRE DE 1901, jueves, se cayó la primera Cruz, Transcurrido el INVIERNO DE 1902, comenzaron las obras de la 2ª Cruz y solo consiguieron llegar hasta 23 metros de construcción cuando se avecinaba un fuerte temporal sin haber colocado todavía los brazos ni sujetarlos con cuatro cables metálicos.
El día 12 DE FEBRERO DE 1906, lunes, se cae la segunda Cruz y finalmente LA CRUZ ACTUAL ES LA TERCERA QUE SE LEVANTA EN LA CUMBRE DEL MONTE GORBEIA con 17 metros de altura, no obstante, de esta tercera no se tienen datos exactos de fechas de su inauguración, por lo que no se sabe si la hubo.
